HBR Finishes Strong at Crandon!

After a grueling five races, Ken finishes 4th during round 5 at Crandon.  The truck has been fast all year but with the increased power came little gremlins that needed to be overcome.  We overcame those gremlins on Sunday.  Ken came through Crandon's famous turn 1 in 6th off the land rush start.  It was some great racing as he battled back and forth with a few people.  About halfway in, he started gaining on 5th.  Ken made his way into fourth and he was able to hold on until the end.  This was a great finish for us this year!  The previous round, Saturday, a power steering problem caused Ken to roll the truck onto it's side.  A small fire started but was quickly put out by the Crandon safety crew.  They got the truck set back on it's wheels and Ken fired it up.  He went on to finish the race.

The three rounds at Antigo were both positive and negative for the team.  Round 1 early Saturday afternoon:  The track had dried up nicely after rain the night before.  Ken started toward the back.  At the drop of the flag, we knew that the truck was fast!  The track had dried up a little more than we anticipated and the truck ended being very loose with the setup we had in it.  A drive shaft problem ended our day early.  We made the repairs for round two coming up later in the day.  We also adjusted the setup for the drier track.  Starting 2nd, Ken put the hammer down at the drop of the flag.  The changes we made had the truck handling extremely well.  Ken ran the truck hard and kept it 2nd until, once again, a drive shaft problem ended our day early.  Round 3, Sunday afternoon:  After more rain Saturday night and Sunday morning, the races got underway about 2 hours behind schedule.  After some other classes went out, the track was back in great shape for our race.  We had fixed the truck and had found the cause of our drive shaft problem.  As we were pulling the truck to staging, we noticed a problem with the transmission.  The 2 previous drive shaft failures had caused a transmission problem that we did not notice in time.  We decided to start in the back and see what we could get.  We ended up finishing the race in 7th.

June 1, 2004: The Memorial Day event in Dresser, WI was postponed due to inclement weather.  The incessant rain with the possibilities of thunderstorms, hail, and tornado warnings made racing secondary.  The event will be re-scheduled sometime this summer.  The next event is June12-13, in Antigo, WI.  Stay Tuned! 

May 25, 2004:Ken and #215 are ready for the competition in the bullring coming up memorial day weekend in Dresser Wisconsin.  The team can't wait to get the season started.  In previous years, we were down on power.  CORR has changed the rules and now all engines must meet specific requirements.  These rule changes, along with the awesome power that we received from Goodwin Competition Engines, will make us a force to be reckoned with in the Sportsman 2 class this year.  The guys at Automatic transmission design matched the torque converter and transmission, Flowmaster designed the exhaust system, and we have tweaked the suspension to make the #215 ready to ROCK!  The communication, dedication, and teamwork has never been better.  Thanks to everyone who has helped get us ready this year.  We can't wait to see you at the races.  Stop on in and say hello.
