Fast Funnel Disposable Funnels® and HBR
are teaming up again. The Fast Funnel product has really caught on
in the off road series. We spends gobs of money on our equipment and
we will ensure that the lubricants we pour in are clean by using a Fast
Funnel. More>>
The last two events were not very kind to Hallgren
Brothers Racing. At rounds 7 & 8 in Bark River Michigan, one
crash on Saturday and some broken parts on Sunday led to our first DNF
this year. Saturday, right of the start, Ken got tangled up with a
couple of trucks and ended up hitting the wall. Even though the
truck was banged up and handled pretty bad, Ken was able to bring the
Fast Funnel/Pit Bull Tires Chevrolet home to a 6th place finish.
After the race, we found that the front toe was knocked out by 2 inches.
We got the truck ready for Sunday and Ken went out and took the
holeshot of the start. Ben Wandahsega slipped by a half lap
in. A slight mistake allowed Ross Hoek and Mike Savage to get by
just a little later. Trying to get back into third, Ken and Ross
made contact. The same front wheel that hit the wall the day
before began to wobble after that. One lap later, that was it for
us. We ended the day in 10th place.
On to Crandon and the World Championships. Once again on
Saturday, Ken got a great start coming out of the most dangerous turn in
all motorsports in second place. We had put on some new headers
for Crandon from GoodWin Competition Engines that made a world of
difference. The truck was able to pull longer and harder.
Unfortunately, we had to much power and bite from the Pit Bull Tires and
the transmission let go about half way in.
After upgrading the transmission Saturday evening, we were ready for
Sunday. Another great start, but coming down the front stretch the
truck got a little loose. A slight tap from behind when Ken
checked up sent him sideways across the track collecting Ross Hoek.
Unfortunately, Ross's truck was hurt pretty bad. This wreck cost
Ross the Championship. Hallgren Brothers Racing does not wish
these circumstances on anyone. A roll by Bob Gerschmel then
brought out the red flag. Bob was OK and the race was
re-started. An electrical problem from the crash with Ross took us
out a half lap later ending our season 7th in points.
Powermaster Motorsports, the leader in high
performance OEM replacement alternators and starters for the
automotive industry has teamed up with Hallgren Brothers Racing for the
rest of the 2006 season. "We are really excited about having
PowerMaster products in our truck, especially the new Powermaster 16
Volt competition battery, an AGM design with unmatched
performance." said Jeff Hallgren, Crew Chief. This battery is
a drop-in for racers, and car audio enthusiasts everywhere.
Hallgren Brothers Racing will also be using Powermaster alternators and
starters to round out the electrical system.
Ken
had to fight a little loose condition during Saturday's race. He
brought the #215 home to a fifth place finish. We made some shock
changes to the truck for Sunday practice, however, we went way too stiff
on the adjustment. We brought it back to the pits, re-adjusted the
truck for the race, and Ken had the best race and finish of his career
July 9th in Bark River. Starting in the middle of the pack during
the land rush start, Ken pulled the hole shot coming out of the first
turn in the lead. Slight contact with another truck in the third
corner allowed Ross Hoek to go by for the lead putting Ken in second
with pressure from last years champion Ben Wandahsega in third.
Ken was able to hold off Ben for two laps, putting him into third.
Ben had a little trouble later in the race, allowing Ken to get back
by. Mike Savage was now in third pressuring Ken for second
spot. Radio problems halfway through the race meant Ken was
entirely on his own for the remainder of the race. The truck was
in excellent form and Ken drove his butt off, continually holding off
the attack of Mike Savage. With 2 laps to go, Mike made a move for
the pass, slightly bumping Ken, but spinning himself out in the
process. The number 215 went on to claim 2nd place.
The land rush start at Crandon is a sight to behold.
Crandon did some major renovations to the track in the off season,
adding clay and smoothing out the start. Of course, they couldn't
leave it perfectly smooth so two jumps were added across the whole
track. This made the already exciting start at Crandon even more
fun! Ken hit the Goodwin power right off the start.
Incidental contact of the second jump with Mike Savage left both trucks
just a little out of shape requiring them to get off the gas and back
under control. Nothing big, but anytime you need to let off the
gas it is not good. Coming out of turn one, Ken was in 8th
place. We gained a lot of speed over last year and the front end
was bottoming out over the 12 foot high Trac-Rite jump every lap.
Ken kept working on the trucks ahead of him throughout the race, even
though he had a hard time seeing because his helmet kept fogging up.
Coming into the last turn on the final lap, a rock took out the oil pump
belt. Luckily we run a system to shut the truck down when there is
no oil pressure and brought the Fast Funnel/Pit Bull tires truck home in
5th place. We had installed our new Ultra Shield Race
Products seat in the truck before Crandon and this was the first race in
it. Ken loves it.
With one race down and morning practice cancelled due the muddy track
from the rain the night before, we didn't have a chance to try our shock
changes. Ken got up to the line and at the drop of the green took
off. The name of the game this Sunday afternoon was
survival. Crandon took its toll on the field. Ken kept out
of trouble and again had some vision problems. The mud-eater film
came undone making it more interesting trying to get by the truck of
Jace Shubert. As the race progressed and both Ken and Jace
progressed through the field, Ken made a move with 3 laps to go.
Jace was able to hold on to 2nd while Ken came in a respectable 3rd.
All in all it was a good weekend. We are looking forward to
Bark River!
HBR opens the season at Antigo
with consistent finishes!
For the first time we can remember, there was no rain at
Antigo! The first sportsman only event was very successful.
Great weather and great racing. Ken started out by drawing the
pole position for the first race on Saturday. At the drop of the
green flag the trucks were off. The Pit Bull Tires hooked up great
and Ken was running up front. Ken raced the Fast Funnel truck to a
5th place finish.
On Sunday we started in the middle of the pack. As the green
flag dropped, the other trucks seemed to be standing still as the
Pit Bull Tires got tons of bite. Going into the first turn Ken
went low to get around the truck in front and contact was made with Don
Williams spinning Ken. Ken made a great save as the truck hit a
large tire marking the track, almost rolling, and immediately got the
truck turned around, but was now at the back of the pack. The
contact with the tire made the truck very loose. As he worked his
way back through the pack he got up to fourth, then spun, then back up
to fifth, spun. Back up to sixth and on the final corner before the
checkers he got inside of the fifth place truck. Unfortunately,
the truck was too loose to make it stick and Ken came home in sixth.
